St. Mary of Victories Church, established in St. Louis way back in 1843, is kicking-off its 175th year with the first annual King to Queen Rosary Run! This 5K Run (or walk), Fun Run (or walk), and Victory Festival will take place on October 7, 2017, which in the Catholic Church is the Feast of Our Lady of Victories / Our Lady of the Rosary.
This isn't an ordinary athletic event, although the route we've chosen will be both interesting and challenging. We envision this race to be an exciting and unifying event which will a joyous celebration of faith, family, fitness and fun for the entire region. With both the 5K and Fun Run, you'll get a chance to test your athletic prowess, and see bits of St. Louis that you may never have had the opportunity to see. The course will start at the "Old Cathedral" Basilica near the Arch, take the runners north and around the Archgrounds with a magnificent view of the Mississippi River, before turning back south and east to St. Mary of Victories for an awards ceremony and huge family-friendly party with barbecue, ice cream, and live music! All the routes are welcome to walkers, but we will have a special short-route "Fun Run" which will go directly from the Old Cathedral to St. Mary of Victories a few blocks to the south, which would be ideal for kids and families! It will truly be a means of uniting neighborhoods, schools, families and faith traditions. Sign up for the 5K or Fun Run by clicking here. (Priests, Deacons, Religious and other clergy can run for free!)
There is no other Devotion in Motion like this which lets runners and spectators take their prayers to the streets in St. Louis. Race participants will be provided Rosary rings to aid their efforts while taking to the streets. We also plan to have "mile" markers, marking the Mysteries of the Rosary, to aid their progress. It is exciting to imagine thousands of people (runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators) offering public prayers through the Rosary, or whatever means of prayer or meditation that may suit their tradition.
We also encourage participating parishes and businesses we pass along the route to showcase something unique to their institution for crowd support along the route... parish choir, school bands, cheer teams, or just the site of religious in clerical dress as visible inspiration.
We are seeking sponsors of every level to help us finance the expenses of this race. Although small donations are welcome, have three levels that may be of particular interest: 1) $300 secures a business-card sized spot on the back of the race t-shirt! Yes, that's all it takes to advertise your business, your favorite cause, or just a dedication / prayer intention! 2) $500 puts your logo or message on a mile marker; 3) $1,000 purchases a post-card sized spot on the back of the race t-shirt. More information can be found by clicking Sponsorship in the menu above.
Tier up your laces, and bring on the graces!
We warmly welcome you, whatever your faith background to participate in this unique, positive, and family friendly event in St. Louis this October! More details will be made available on this web site, and announced via our e-mail list(sign up here)as the event nears.
